Details of Bitõn

Born in April 1963 in Harlingen, a Fishing Port in the North of the Netherlands, I was always used to be at the sea side. My name Bitõn, better known as one of the noble brothers of the early Archaic period is quite unusual. I have a brother too with the name Kleobis! We both have a statue at the Greek Delphi Museum.

Till my 6th year I was living in Harlingen and my passion for Coasters and other vessels was born. Lot's of time's they could find me at the Harbour looking at the vessels instead of being at School. But there was more... the house with the name Blauwe Hand where I was living was also a pub with live music on Saturday nights! This means that music was always in my mind. At the age of six, my parents divorced and our family started to travel around the Netherlands and France, between my mum and dad. When I discovered the pirate radio stations in the North Sea I could combine two things, music and vessels. My favorite Radio station became Radio Caroline, broadcasting from the mv. Mi Amigo. Even at school I was listening at Radio Caroline! By hiding my radio in a box, the teacher couldn't see it. :-)

From 1978 I started to work as Roadie with a local New Wave band called Beau Nasties. After one year being a Roadie I was starting to do work as a Sound Engineer. Later on I started to do more and more Sound jobs. Together with my brother and Gerard Kool, our neighbour, we already had a Disco Drive-inn Show. This was before I became a Roadie. So I started to combine those two jobs with my school and could use the PA equipment of the Beau Nasties. In 1980 I was made responsible of the PA system and started to drive the Mercedes Benz lorry. By the end of the Seventies I was starting to use the Apple II computer with Pallsoft Basic. This was opening up a whole new world for me and I was starting to invest time into studying computers. But once a Sound Engineer always a Sound Engineer. Some time's I didn't sleep at all to be at School and to do a Gig in the same day!

Having a big interest in all kinds of technology I was starting to repair electronics when I was about 8 years old. Playing around with Valve Amps was great. Soon I discovered that it's not fun to get in touch with the high voltage parts of those amps. But making mistakes is the learning process of life, isn't it? Also I was starting to play around with mechanics and transmitters. Building a 21 meters tall antenna was one of my projects. Other things I designed were lot's of speaker systems both for home and PA use. Living on a low budget made us working for everything we wanted. My Mum didn't had any money at all. Did lot's of different jobs with Agencies to get some monies. Welding Stainless Beer barrels was one of my favorites.

So after all those years who is Bitõn? Eh well yeah... It's always hard to write about your self isn't it? But I know I'm a hard worker. Critical in life and what I do but I do make mistakes... Intelligent, like technology, discover how things are working and made. Always willing to learn and pickup things very fast and easy. Open and wide minded. Job wise, I like to do a good job instead a halve job. Independent worker and can make my own decisions but can also work in teams. Or leading a team! Will not give up that easily on problems, hence I'm an born Trouble Shooter! I fight for the things I believe in. I'm sometimes a rebel and doesn't take things for granted that easy. I'm direct, straight and reliable. Speak some European languages, try to learn Shona at the moment and like to travel around. Interested in politics. Big fan of Open Source and my lovely girlfriend Elizabeth of course!
