Maintenance of the whole office computer network. This TCP/IP network is using a Windows NT SBS 4.5 Server and Windows 2000 Professional Workstations. Made adjustment’s to the DNS, DHCP and WINS servers to make the network running better. Installed an extra Smart 1200 UPS from APC for more power safety. Solved some UTP cable problems. This network is connected by a 3Com router with an ISDN 64 Kbps Dial-Up line. Every workstation can browse the Internet and send / receive E-Mail’s. The office is managing their E-Mail’s, fax messages and the shared Agenda by using software from the company David and the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 server.
10/2000, 2 day’s -Sunshine Villas, Almancil, Portugal, bit4net networks & troubleshooting
Solved problem with Microsoft Proxy 2.0 server running on a dual Pentium II Windows NT 4.0 Server with service pack 6a. Give network consult for the Windows NT Server 4.0 hardware and the remote connections between their offices. The server is changed from a mirror hard disk system to Raid 5 and mirror system to get the max. performance and safety. The connections between the offices are made by dedicated ISDN lines of 64 Kbps to access the Microsoft SQL 7.0 Database of Almancil headquarters.
10/2000, 12/2000 -Golfers Paradise, Almancil, Portugal, bit4net networks & troubleshooting
Helped them to configure their Microsoft Exchange 5.5 server running on a Windows 2000 Server and solved many problems. Some workstations couldn’t resolve name’s on this TCP/IP (NetBEUI) network because of the DNS server which was not configured at all! The WINS and DHCP services had the same problems. Workstations which could make connections were using NetBEUI / broadcasting. This network wasn’t installed and configured correctly. The network had two Windows 2000 servers one as PCD / Active Directory, Exchange 5.5, DHCP, DNS & WINS and the other with Interbase running in it’s own Workgroup. The company has two remote locations all connected with dedicated 64 Kbps ISDN line’s with only workstations. The Event Log’s of the servers were full with error messages. I’m changed the whole network in a working TCP/IP network with one domain and no error messages in the Event Log. This was quite difficult because this network was in full production so I couldn’t afford to make any mistake’s, this company is working 7 day’s a week. Installed and Upgrade Windows NT and Windows 98 Workstations to Windows 2000 Professional with Outlook 2000. Build an complete Manageable Tasks System with Outlook 2000 and the Exchange Server 5.5 manageable by the Manager Director of the company.

Installed McAfee Antivirus System for the whole office with automatic update’s. Maintenance the telephone system and made the patches when people changed position. From the Location of Torino I supported by RAS connections Portugal headquarters to solve network problems around the globe. In my capacity as IT Office Manager I had the full responsibility of the IT systems for a large Portuguese design company, sourced and setup the Windows NT 4.0 servers, 100 Mb Ethernet TCP/IP network and changed the workstations from Windows 95 to Windows NT 4.0. The servers, I assembled them by my self to get the best performance and price with the best possible components like Asus systemboard’s, Symbios SCSI controllers and IBM SCSI hard disks. Also fixed a lot of software and hardware problems. Like SCSI termination, SCSI cable’s, network connections cable’s with RJ45 connectors, wrong NIC drivers, etc. Give support for the program’s like Adobe Pagemaker, CorelDRAW and Freehand. Installed Norton Antivirus program’s and keep them updated. Supporting the Umax ‘Apple Macintosh’ clone they used for specific jobs. Made a Windows NT 4.0 RAS connection with ISDN 64/128 Kbps active B1 controllers from AVM. This connection connect the two company office’s in Lisboa and Boliqueime, Algarve. This company was real international, I spoke English, Dutch, German and Portuguese.

In the function of IT co-operator with the instruction to configure eighty DOS 6.22 / Windows 3.11 workstations over a Windows NT 4.0 TCP/IP network. I had to change icons and some Windows settings. By making a small program, batch file, to do it automatic, it took 3 day’s and not the 7 day’s they expected.
9/1997 - 12/2000 -McBit NetWork & TroubleShooting, ’s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands.
Started my own company ‘McBit NetWork & TroubleShooting BV io’. With the aim to become self-employed. By the end of 2000 I closed down the company bit4net.

Collaborated as implementor and trouble-shooter in the rollout of the TeleBox-concept inside PTT Telecom and in the maintenance of this system. I also devised a course and gave lessons to teach the locale System Management organisation about Windows NT 3.51 - 4.0, TCP/IP, DHCP, WINS en DNS. The ‘old’ BackOffice system was based on Novell NetWare 3.1x servers and DOS 5.x / Windows 3.1 workstations these networks were using IPX/SPX as the network protocol.

In the function of System Management I and my colleague’s were responsible for the Novell NetWare 3.1x IPX/SPX network test infrastructure of PTT Telecom. This department was the build and test site for the T-Werkplek back office system. Based on Novell NetWare 3.1x servers and DOS 5.x / Windows 3.1 workstations the network was running on Ethernet with the IPX/SPX protocol. Made an automatic reset procedure to reset a server to basic installation after being used by the testers to install their new software. We were also involved by testing of new hard- and software. One of my tasks was to give support to my colleague’s about their computer system’s. Installation of new hard disks or repairing computers. Some time’s they asked me to help other departments with server or computer problem’s. The server hardware came from Compaq like the Systempro’s and later the Proliant 19" rack models. Also assisting with the launch of the ‘TeleBox’ project (new environment; Windows NT 3.51 server / 4.0 workstation with TCP/IP). Via one of the Unix Systems Operator I came in contact with FreeBSD and Linux. For a cup of coffee he installed one of these OS on your computer. Using Dail-IBM, internal network of IBM based on 3270 terminal software, to resolve IBM related problem’s. Because my function ‘Productline Manager Compaq’ I did some Compaq courses and solved the most Compaq Problem’s. Being a Network Engineer I replaced the company Network Manager when he was on holiday’s and helped him to setup the Codis BBS. The company network (Ethernet, TokenRing & ARCnet) was running on Novell NetWare 3.12 using IPX/SPX as protocol. Arcserve software was installed to make the backup’s on a DAT tape unit from HP. Later we changed the whole network and changed all ARCnet to Ethernet. In this time I was testing the first Windows NT beta version to get experience with this new OS.
